BIg, sturdy, stylish!

My British Blue destroyed a flimsier scratching post in just under a year - shredded sisal, fraying carpet. Plus I always had to hold onto it when he used it so it wouldn't tip over. So I was on the hunt for something durable and sturdy. The Katattack Sierra Post arrived very fast, was well-packed, and very well made. It doesn't have any factory smell, i.e, the materials are good quality. As another reviewer mentioned, the sisal is dense and very firmly attached, so it's a little more difficult to sink claws into this. But I'm guessing this might change with usage. Best of all, my cat can stretch up to his full height and have a good workout, and the post doesn't tip over. Size-wise, I was a bit worried that it would totally dominate the living room. But - at least the dark coloured one I ordered - it is pretty stylish and indiscreet, for something that's quite massive :)
Thanks a lot to Shane and everyone for good customer service and great quality! Will recommend to friends.

Good quality, recommended if within your budget

A well made item, unfortunately our cat seems to prefer the cheap scratch posts and our new couch over this! We've had this for a week now but he just doesn't use it. The sisal is wound very tightly and our cat struggles to get his claws into them. It is a good size and well made item. Just no interest from our cat so feeling sad that he doesn't love it like the other cats in these reviews.

Edit: it’s now been about a month since we got this scratch post, we have consistently been putting cat treats at the top of the post which has encouraged our cat to reach up. He still prefers our couch as a scratching item but he does use the post more now so have added a star to this review.

Edit 2: wanted to return and adjust this rating again because our cat is now used to this item and uses it regularly. Would recommend to others if within your budget! Your cat may take to it straight away or take a few months like ours did. Our cat still struggles to get his claws into the tightly wound sisal but he just reaches above to use the carpet section so it’s ok.

KatAttack San Diego Post Sisal & Carpet 70cm Light

Amazing. Bought it to replace a cat scratch post bought from Animates that broke in less than a year. Sturdy and doesn’t wobble. Our British short hair loves it.

The most solid and sturdy scratch post I have ever bought. All 3 cats love it and tall enough for the kittens to climb to the top and play. Great service. Great product. Highly recommend.

solid and well used!

This scratch post is great. My fussy little terror loves it. It’s robust, no sign of shredding or fraying. It’s tall enough for her to climb up it too. Perfect!

From Scratch to Finish: The Superior Raw Materials of Our Cat Scratchers

Triboard
The cornerstone of our 10-Year Structural Warranty is the base and landings of our Cat Trees, constructed from 100% sustainable New Zealand Radiata pine. This material not only meets rigorous quality and environmental standards, but its stability offers unparalleled load-bearing and screw-holding capabilities. While it may be more costly, we view this as an essential investment in the longevity of our Cat Trees, especially given the current high demand.

Pine Poles
Our upright poles, the backbone of our Cat Trees, are built from solid 100mm thick New Zealand pine. The carpeting on these poles is firmly glued and stapled, allowing for longevity and easy recovery even after your cat has extensively used the surface. This feature ensures that our products are both sustainable and extendable over time.

Carpet
Our choice of carpet material prioritises your cat's safety and comfort. We exclusively use cut pile carpets, which are less likely to catch your cat's claws compared to loop pile varieties. Many of the high-quality carpets we utilise are locally sourced from New Zealand. For example, the Cavalier Bremworth carpet, which can cost upwards of $300 per linear meter, is extensively used in our products. In fact, our popular New Yorker model requires more than 2.25 linear meters of this carpet.

Sisal
Our top-quality, maritime-grade Sisal is carefully hand-wound onto our uprights, secured with industrial staples for maximum durability. Crafted to withstand even the most ambitious feline with a fierce spirit, our Sisal proves to be the strongest available on the market. So, for cats that channel their inner tiger, we say: let the scratching games begin!

Colours and Extras

Within the shopping cart's section, there is a box in which you can enter your request. Let us know if you like a colour that you have seen on any of our other models, and we will do our best to accommodate your request to have that colour applied to this model.

Because we construct each of our trees in-house, we are able to fulfil the majority of our customers' needs. There is a possibility that this will incur additional costs, however we will tell you of these costs before we construct your unit.

Once more, this is something that we are able to perform for an additional fee. You can send us an email with your request, and we will respond with a price estimate.

That is dependent upon your feline friend. Sisal is durable enough to survive the claws of a cat for many months or even years. Nevertheless, some felines like the plusher texture of carpet.

Delivery

If you choose one of our bigger cat trees, it may take a bit longer to arrive as these units are made to order. Your tracking information will be sent to you immediately after your item/s are shipped. To transport them around New Zealand, for our larger trees we strap and pack them on pallets once they've left our factory you will be contacted by our bulk freight company.

Absolutely not! Each of our cat trees is shipped out of our factory in a completely built state. Once our cat trees have been delivered, you will not need to screw or glue them together.

We do, and we've already sent New Yorkers to Australia. It is not cheap, and you must email us with your address to receive a firm quote. The cost of shipping a New Yorker to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide by sea is around $1227.35.

We do not pass on the complete cost of freight because it is prohibitively expensive to ship huge cat trees within New Zealand. Consider that transporting a New Yorker to your location would be similar to sending a sizable refrigerator there.

Recovering my old scratcher

Yes, if it's one of our own. If it's possible to bring it to our facility, we can usually have it restored to its original condition within a week. A fee will be charged if you live in Auckland and want us to pick up and drop off.

Depending on the model, most cat trees only require the uprights to be refurbished. Single posts typically range between $40 and $70, and large cat trees require an email with a photo so that we can provide you with an accurate quote.

We are unable to do so due to the fact that the vast majority of scratching posts sold in pet stores are constructed of cardboard, which makes it difficult for our carpet to adhere to.
